Kimberly Bañes Muth
About
Kimberly Bañes Muth is a glassblower currently based in Corning, NY, USA. Driven by experimentation and process, she is conceptually interested in the relationship between objects and “place” and how these relate to personal mythologies, memory, identity, behavior, and culture.
After making the decision to pursue glassblowing in 2022, Kimberly developed her skills by working in studios and factories around the world including Seattle (Washington), Venice (Italy), and Aruba. She has been awarded scholarships to the Corning Museum of Glass, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and Penland School of Craft, allowing her to further her glass education. She completed her first artist residency at the North Carolina Glass Center in spring 2025. Kimberly currently works as a freelance glassblower, as well as an occasional member of the Hot Glass Team at the Corning Museum of Glass.
Prior to glass, Kimberly earned a B.S. in Psychology with a Minor in Neuroscience (2014) from the University of Pittsburgh and began working as a cognitive neuroscience research laboratory manager. She then went on to complete an M.Ed. in Foreign Language Education (2018), also from the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating, she moved to the Czech Republic under a Fulbright Fellowship, where she taught English as a Foreign Language at the High School of Applied Arts for Glassworking in Železný Brod. It was during this time that her passion for glass deepened, prompting her eventual transition to glassblowing.
